Episode 465: Michigan State 38-Northwestern 21

Well, that is certainly not how we wanted to start the season. Things went south for the Cats starting from the very first play of the game. However, instead of giving our knee-jerk reactions, we took some time, broke down the film and really dissected what went wrong last Friday in Evanston. 1. Thanks for the well put together Cats football content! I really appreciate the thoughtful and well researched analysis.

That said, I have a bone to pick on new DC JON. On the one hand, you are quick to defend him and state it is not anything he did during the game. Yet, in the same podcast you note that NU was terribly out coached. I presume this was not in reference to the offense solely. You put the blame primarily on 2 players in the secondary, yet JON is supposed to be a DB guru and he had all of camp to determine the best players to execute his schemes. He didn’t figure it out very well.

Im very concerned about NUs future on that side of the ball as long as JON is DC. He had a very rocky track record prior to NU. I saw nothing last week to lead me to believe it is just an issue at the pro level.

Here’s my offer… If JON as DC for NU ever produces a top 10 Defense (yards or points per game), I’ll fund your tailgate for a year!
